Important Update for Members and Twitter Users
I recently made two changes to the site and my associated social media account at Twitter.
As many who are regular Twitter users are aware, much has changed on that site since its acquisition by Elon Musk. Although the site was never perfect, it enabled a degree of free communication of ideas to a wider world. I used it, with limited success, to share my own work. I also used it to keep abreast of the news and the commentary of thoughtful analysts who helped expand my understanding.
Since the Musk acquisition, Twitter has changed a number of its rules. It longer provides guardrails for appropriate content, which has unleashed hateful posts from deranged lunatics and others in the name of 'free speech.' He has also invited multiple characters back, whom the previous owners had banned due to their consistently hateful or misleading content.
Many of these changes, including the monetization of the 'blue checkmark' which used to confirm that accounts purported to be those of famous people were genuine, have no effect on small users like me. But the overall atmosphere, which has swung toward hatred and degradation, has become a place wherein I, and my brand, do not feel welcome.
And as they say on Shark Tank, "For that reason, I'm out."
A small number of users may have noticed that I have also deleted my membership page on this site. There are two reasons for this. One, and probably most important, is that I had no real idea what benefit I might give to my 'exclusive members.' The other potentially more concerning reason was that I was periodically receiving large numbers of requests to join the site from Russian bot accounts, which were styled to look like real users, but were actually system-generated email accounts. Leading to where, I have no idea, but I am not interested in being a dupe for a Russian troll farm.
